Eldoret Forum to be held on Tuesday, 29th January 2013 at Sirikwa Hotel

The Land Development and Governance Institute's countrywide land, peace and elections initiative dubbed 'Ardhi na Amani Kenya' has now swung to the Rift Valley. A land, peace and elections forum will be held at the Sirikwa Hotel, Eldoret on Tuesday 29th. Leaders drawn from among others:-

  • The Provincial Administration
  • Local Authorities
  • Government Ministries(Lands, Housing, Environment, KFS, KWS, Agric, Livestock)
  • Religious Institutions
  • District Peace Committees
  • Community groups
  • Local media
  • Women groups
  • Youth Groups
  • Academic Institutions
  • Cooperative Societies
  • Group Ranches/Company and Cooperative Farms
  • Business Organizations
  • Professional Associations

have been invited. The key focus will be to appeal for peace and co-existence before, during and after the 4th March General elections particularly noting that the land question, which has been used to promote vested interests by unscrupulous political actors in previous general elections, now can be resolved through legal and peaceful means through recently formulated legal instruments like:-

  1. The Sessional Paper No 3 on the National Land Policy
  2. The Constitution of Kenya 2010 which contains a comprehensive chapter on land and environment
  3. The Environment and Land Court Act, 2011
  4. The Land Act, 2012
  5. The Land Registration Act, 2012
  6. The National Land Commission Act, 2012

The forum will appeal to leaders within this Cosmopolitan County and its environs to heed and share this message for the sake of a peaceful and united Kenya.

Other Forums

Other similar forums have been held in Kisumu for Nyanza, Kakamega for Western, Mombasa for the Coast, Kajiado for Kajiado and Narok Counties and Thika for Kiambu County. These forums have helped to empower leaders with key messages which can help them confront any incidents of incitement into violence on account of land issues. The forums have also helped local leaders to understand the new land administration institutional framework and prepared them to be able to identify and appoint suitable leaders into the new County level land institutions.

The forums have been well attended by the provincial administration, peace committee leaders, religious leaders and the media in each of the regions. Key resource materials to empower the leaders have also been distributed.

Similar forums will be held in:-

  1. Kitui on Friday 8th February 2013
  2. Isiolo on Tuesday 19th February 2013
  3. Nyeri on Thursday 21st February, 2013
