Land Development and Governance Institute launches its "Ardhi na Amani Kenya" initiative in Kisumu next week
"Ardhi Na Amani Kenya" Launch Forum : Royal City Hotel (next to Agha Khan Walk), Tuesday 4th December 2012
The Land Development and Governance Institute (www.ldgi.org/www.ldgi.co.ke) will launch a robust countrywide land, peace and elections initiative dubbed "Ardhi na Amani Kenya" at the Kisumu Royal City hotel an Tuesday 4th December 2012.
Stakeholders from around the County have been invited to this forum which is expected o begin rallying Kenyans to shun violence before, during and after the March 2013 general elections on account of real or perceived historical land injustices and disputes.
The initiative will be clarifying that contrary to the past, Kenya now has enabling policy, constitutional and legal frameworks which will guide the resolution of past land injustices through legal mechanisms. Election violence has in the past undermined peace and security in the country and usually reversed our economic gains. This initiative will go into efforts to explain to Kenyans that violence on account of land issues has only begot more violence without resolving the salient issues. It will therefore be prudent for Kenyans to shun any incitement to violence on account of the land issue this time round.
Invited
Others invited include public officials critical to the success of this initiative such as officials from the Ministry of Lands, the Provincial Commissioner, the County Commissioners and District officers. The local media, who are key to the escalation of the key messages within the region and countrywide, have also been invited.
